Release 2.5.2
-
The page width has been increased. The majority of our users now use higher resolution
displays. To take advantage of this we've increased the font size and also increased the
photo size to 160 X 120 pixels (4:3 aspect ratio) and resized the existing photos.
You may want to upload another photo if this has caused any blurring. Do this on the
'Update Group' page.
-
A simplified error page has been introduced. You'll simply see a 'problem has occurred'
error message and we log the fault details. This should make fixing things easier!
-
The event signup page is now clearer for historical events. We've changed the close email
wording too - we recognised that new groups can take a while to get everyone invited. So,
if your group has less players than the number needed for the event, the system warns you
of this rather than just calling the event off.
-
Other players may have appointed you to sign them up. If you sign up another player,
the signup page will now display your name if you move the mouse over the icon in the
'Available' column for the appropriate player.
Technical: This feature won't work on the Safari browser (Apple), as
it does not seem to honour the 'title' attribute of images.
-
For Excel users we've provided a workbook to generate an event file.
You'll need to enable macros, but basically you can just enter your events, check the
parameters, then press 'Generate XML' which will prompt for a filename and dump the XML
into it. You can then upload the file on the 'Event Setup' page of your group.
-
Lots of minor bug fixes.
Release 2.5.1
-
We've changed the sender address of emails sent to the group from 'noreply@amiplaying.com'
to the email address of the group owner. This should mean there is less chance of SPAM
filters messing things up.
In addition the group owner will now receive notification of any undelivered email,
such as when a player's mailbox is full.
-
We've improved the way activation emails and group invitation emails work. Some people
use email programs that corrupt the activation/invitation codes we send out, so we've
added a fallback method for those poor souls.
-
Added a new 'links' page listing sites that you may find useful.
Release 2.5
All Users
-
Classified Ads are now fully implemented with RSS support.
-
A player can now appoint other players in the group to sign up on their behalf.
Useful if you can't always get on the internet before the game closes.
-
There are changes to the way you contact a group or Ad poster. You now email
the group owner or Ad poster using a contact form, leaving them your email address
to get in touch with you. This seems a far more reliable way of putting people in
contact with each other. In addition the system keeps a record for your contact
history.
-
The automatic logout (session expiry) has been increased to 1 hour and the system
no longer warns you have been automatically logged out, which was irritating.
-
Group members can now send an email to the group.
-
The system no longer sends email notifications for groups set up in your area. This
feature was complex and hardly ever used, so we decided to remove it since it is now
very easy to search for groups or Ads in your area.
-
You can now enter your phone number in addition to your mobile. Log in and go to the
'My Details' page to do this.
-
The system now automatically recognises URLs & email addresses in notice board posts,
group descriptions & Ads.
-
Newlines are similarly supported in notice board posts, group descriptions & Ads.
-
We've added a new, country specific, city 'quick finder' both for search and when
setting up new groups or posting Ads.
-
The welcome email is now sent after account activation, not initial registration.
-
The event quick jump menu is now in descending order.
-
We've added a tick box for new registrations to confirm acceptance of our terms
and conditions.
-
The home page has been adorned with quick links to bookmark amiplaying.com on your
favourite social bookmaring site.
-
For those groups who are evaluating the billing tracking system, we've added a
'who owes what' to the billing home page.
-
A few new printable posters have been added: softball, rugby and new football posters.
We'll add more when we get a chance.
-
Added shinty as a sport.
-
Improved the Australian & New Zealand flag icons. Apologies for any inaccuracies
there.
-
Various bug fixes.
Organisers
-
Improved event setup screens. The event setup has had an overhaul to make it more
intuitive and robust. Two events in the same group now cannot share the same date
and time.
-
The roll call menu is now in descending order.
-
We've added support for an optional event name.
-
You can now upload an event file as an alternative way of setting up events. We
decided to go with an XML format because of the multi-lingual support provided.
You can view a sample event file here.
Group Owners
-
Players can be marked as preferred. Preferred players will be selected ahead
of other players, regardless of reliability. You can change this on an event by
event basis to give full control over player selection.
-
The group owner can now remove notice board posts.
-
Time zones are now automatically deduced.
-
We decided to incorporate ReCAPTCHA to help prevent
spam both when posting an Ad and setting up a new group.
-
The group update functionality has been improved. Group owners might want to take a look
and check their group location is accurate.
-
You can now delete your unwanted group(s).
-
Support for a much longer group description.
-
There is no longer a strange black line at the bottom or right of some photos after
uploading.
-
We've changed the aspect ratio of our photos to the standard 4:3 (144 X 108) and resized
the existing photos. You may want to upload another photo if this has caused any blurring.
Do this on the 'Update Group' page.
-
The group owner icon is now a key, not a crown.
Release 2.0
A major release. We've re-designed the site from the ground up.
All Users
-
You'll probably notice the login has moved from the home page. You can access
the new login page from the navigation menu at the top right of the screen. This
means that once logged in, you can revisit the home page without being logged out
by the system. It also means we don't need to encrypt the home page so it is
quicker to load. If you feel that clicking on an extra link to get to the
login page is all too much, just bookmark the login page for next time :-)
-
Once you've selected your group you will probably notice the 'total points'
has been superceded by a 'reliability' rating. This is the percentage of
the maximum points available for the last 10 events. Consult the FAQ for
more details.
-
The site now indicates the number of new posts to the notice board since you last
read it. This number will be high the first time you use the system. This is not a
bug, just select the notice board and all will be well. A list of online users
(active in the last 5 minutes) is now displayed.
-
You can now sign up to events in the future, not just the next one. Use the
event tabs and quick jump menu to select your event. This means the old
event history has now been replaced with a 'tabbed' browsing approach.
-
A new 'Group Info' section lists all group members and group stats. You can
also access some 'Player Info' by clicking on a player, although this has not yet
been fully implemented.
-
A big change is the ability to search for groups without having to register. This
benefits groups too. You can now refer to your group in emails, forums, blogs
etc. as a direct link. You'll find your group link in the 'Invitations' section of
the site. There is also a new 'Print Poster' feature for those groups who want to
advertise for new players by poster.
-
You may need to reload certain pages to refresh the images. Specifically refresh the
'Event Signup' page to get the new tick, cross and question mark images which are
smaller than before. To be absolutely certain you could clear out all the cached
images in your browser.
Organisers
-
We've decided to use the term 'roll call' rather than 'resulting' to describe the
process of entering who turned up and who didn't after an event takes place. You'll
find a new 'Roll Call' option on the menu which is designed for this purpose.
Be sure to enter the roll call even if the event didn't go ahead. That way each
player's reliability rating will be correctly calculated. The 'Event Setup' pages
should now be much simpler and more intuitive.
Group Owners
-
Please log in, select your group and go to the 'Group Setup' page. Click
on the link to change the group location, towards the top of the page.
Move the red group marker on the map to the exact location of your group. You
may need to zoom in to do this - use the + button in the top left corner of
the map. Then press the 'Save' button.
-
Go back to the 'Group Setup' page and check the venue name and address are
accurate. Then select your standard. The group standard is an indication to
others who may wish to join your group. A value of 1 means 'beginners', and a
value of 10 means 'professional'. Most groups will be somewhere between these
two numbers. If you expect players to contribute towards costs then select 'Yes'
for the 'Players Pay Costs?' option, otherwise 'No'. Check the group description
and press the 'Save' button again.
-
If you have a group photo, go back to the 'Group Setup' page and use the form at
the bottom to update the group photo. Again check the
FAQ
for information on the photo formats supported.
-
The featured group gallery is new in this release. Once you've sorted out the group,
just select the 'Feature It!' option. We will take a look at your group, and if all
is well, we'll add it to the featured gallery to further promote your group.
Release 1.5
Group invitations now include details of who sent them.
Lots of minor enhancements including some spelling corrections. Users or entire groups
can now be suspended if we receive complaints. Plenty of behind the scenes database tuning
work has also been completed. You can now search for sports groups in your area and apply
to join them.
Release 1.1
We've finally gone live. Many thanks to everyone involved in testing. Surprising how many
bugs creep in!
Release 1.0
First version of the site released for testing and feedback.
